Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item can be improved by upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gauge each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling an item scales with its rarity and level.
Upgrade components
An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can increase the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished by various methods such as the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. In addition to this, many items can be reforged, which can boost their stats even more.
There are items that can be upgraded throughout the game. They are available all over the world as well as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. Upgrade components are the most common method to upgrade equipment. These are items that slot into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with upgrade slots, and most require a certain upgrade level. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses while others provide general bonuses.
There are upgrade item of upgrade components in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs can only be found in gathering tools. They offer a range of bonuses, ranging from boosting the speed of an item's gathering to providing additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. It will display the expected stats following the upgrade. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will be marked as Blocked.
The upper-right corner displays the amount of upgrade components required for an item. The cost of upgrading increases with the level and rarity of the item increases. However you can lower this cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller, or trading them with other players.
The majority of weapons can be upgraded by a prefix such as a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be upgraded with a suffix. These upgrades include an adjective in the name of the item, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs are a way to convey information via visuals. They are animated to draw the attention of the viewer and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, which makes them more effective in communicating messages across language barriers. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph comes with a range of values that it can improve a stat by, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This is the maximum value that the glyph can enhance a stat by and not the amount it actually improves it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the product you are in awe of it.
Most upgrade components slotted into items can't be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by utilizing the upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can take out the glyph using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed within which it is placed but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its shards so this should not be considered as a loss.
When you take away an item after adding a glyph, the shards from that glyph will disappear. You can also place an inscription on your equipment to give it a bonus. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly rather than all at once. This can be helpful for those who take many hits from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens permit players to alter the affixes they use on their weapons and equipment and can be found through a variety of methods such as in mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or even from killing bosses. Every reroll grants the player an unspecified affix, which is usually better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the item upgrade menu, but they are still eligible to receive upgrades. If you click the "upgrade button", you can recycle the recycled items. This will change the design of the item's window and let up to six items be chosen for recycling. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the rarity of the item as well as its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable for recycling than items with lower levels.
In addition to reroll tokens players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls will determine the % chance of a particular weapon trait; if it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.
Rerolls are a good option for upgrading an item, however, players must be aware that it will reduce the total ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls needed to raise the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This reduction effect is most effective on Diadems and rings that don't have other options for raising ilvls.
The reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive, and it would be more reasonable to let players pay for it in the form of money or food items which would allow them to change their builds without spending too much time and energy. The developers do not plan to offer paid rerolls in this stage of the game's development. They plan to add an ingredient that allows players to change their race in the future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to level up an upgrade for an item. The first method of leveling up an upgrade to an item is to increase the upgrade amount. This boosts the upgrade value for a stat. The alternative is to increase the impact of the upgrade, which boosts the damage or healing of the stat. In addition you have the option to upgrade the base item to a higher upgrade type. After this the new item will keep its iLevel, but will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded type of item.
It is important to remember that upgrades are not guaranteed. In most cases the best roll will be derived from glyphs, however there are also opportunities for higher or more special rolls. The type of item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a specific item type, it has a chance of getting an upper level.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading an item of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item will depend on the iLevel it's built upon as well as the amount of upgrade levels. Some upgrade tracks also require crests to reach the next level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will reach the maximum level of its upgrade track, and will unlock a bonus effect. This will increase the item's upgrade value. The bonus effect will vary with each upgrade level though. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased by +3.
Depending on the item's level of base and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will also change. For instance an item upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to an extraordinary one is likely to gain the enhanced defense of the new base item.
